Blogging can be a fun hobby. Writing about things I am passionate about and helping others is the main reason I created this blow. However, over the course of this blog, I have already learned so much valuable information. I used to read blogging income reports and think to myself that making money from blogging was a scam.

Like who the hell makes 100,000 per MONTH from a blog? It didn’t seem feasible to me. And, although I am nowhere near that type of income, I have started generating income from blogging. That is something I am really proud of because I never thought someone with very little experience (like me) could earn money just from writing. I want to help you do that too! So here is my free guide on how to start your own blog.

Web Hosting

How do you begin blogging?

  1. Decide what you want to blog about.

  2. Pick a domain name.

  3. Choose a blogging platform.

  4. Find a host.

  5. Customize your blog.

  6. Start creating content.

What to blog about?

Are you a fitness coach, homeschooling mother, health guru, or a money-saving lady on a mission? Write about things you are passionate about.  If you get into blogging and you don’t love the content you are creating then you will burn out, fast. Blogging is fun, but it is also time-consuming and it can be challenging if you don’t know where to begin. My blog is classified as a lifestyle blog. I talk about so many different things from homeschooling to finance.

Pick a domain name.

You figured out what you want to write about, but the hard part(for me anyway) was picking my domain name. I wanted to do something clever and something that wasn’t overdone. I did a spin-off of my fiance’s last name. Since that is our daughter’s last name. You can look at websites like Moz that will help you find a name you love. It can be difficult because it isn’t something that is easily changed. So be sure you love it and it is something you can live within 5+ years.

Which blogging platform?

There are several options when it comes to choosing a blogging platform. When I began blogging, I went with blogger because it was free and easily accessible. As my blog grew I learned how important it was for me to move to WordPress. I recommend WordPress because it is one of the largest blogging platforms on the internet today. There are various themes and plugins to make your blogging experience as easy as possible. It was the best business decision I made for my blog. If you sign up through Siteground you receive WordPress at no additional cost. Sign up with WordPress by clicking here.

Finding a host.

This can be such a tricky step if you do not know where to start. I recommend getting hosted by SiteGround ($3.95 per month). They have amazing technical support and they offer free file transfers for existing blogs They saved me so much hassle when I transferred from blogger to WordPress. I ended up talking to the support team like a billion times and every time they were unbelievably helpful and kind. I wish I would have just started my blogging adventure with SiteGround, but transferring all of my information wasn’t difficult at all with the amazing technical support. Customize your blog.

Once all the above is done it is time for you to put some originality on your blog. Use free websites such as Canva and PicMonkey to create your own custom banners and blog post content. Canva is my all time favorite for making Pinterest images. You can also check out Logo Garden for a free build your own logo. Make sure you pick a theme you love and your fonts are easy to read.

Create Content.

Now is my favorite part. Talk about your passions, travel plans, or your kids. Blog about your favorite products and how to make a garden. Whatever you want to talk about. Blog about what you want to and do it on your own terms. Create your own masterpiece.

  1. Thanks for sharing this post. I have been doing affiliate programs for a while now and never thought about going to a specialized logo designer. I always resorted to fiverr or Upwork.
