Hayden is 2 Years Old!

nicu reunion

Holy crap. Who said my kids could just keep getting older? On a serious note, Hayden is my 31 week preemie. If you would like to read her traumatic premature birth story you can by clicking here. Lets dive in. Whats New? This little brat is walking, talking full sentences, has a full-blown teenage attitude, and no longer needs her glasses. She is a whopping 24 pounds (which is still small but perfect for her history). We recently found out she LOVES the water. So now this momma is even more nervous around bodies of water. The boys never were […]

Hayden’s Premature Birth Story.

It is almost Valentine’s day! I know what you’re thinking. “Oh another crazy mom obsessed with Valentine’s day.” And you wouldn’t be wrong. However, my obsession with Valentine’s Day only began last year. When my youngest child was born. 9 weeks early. 183.6 miles from home. On Valentine’s day. She is a princess, so why not come out on the most “girly” holiday imaginable. Well since it is almost her first birthday, I figured, I would write her birth story. Complete and unfiltered. This will be my longest post yet… This pregnancy was my third (well fourth if you count […]

My Open Letter to Formula Feeding Moms.

I was that mom. You know the one who would look at a newborn baby with a bottle in its mouth and judge the mother. I would never smirk or make it known how disappointed I was, but I surely would feel bad for that infant. “Why in the world did that mother not want to give her baby the best?”, I would think to myself. I was intensely judgmental of something I couldn’t understand. With my first child my breast milk came in like a trooper. It was enough to feed two babies at a time and it was […]

Getting my tubes tied: 22 and through! (with Surgery Images)

When I was younger I wanted a big family with the ability to stay home, homeschool, and eventually go back to school to be a nurse. When I say big family I mean BIG, like 6-8 kids big. Things changed as my body displayed signs with my three beautiful babies that I’m not made to carry children. For a brief overview of my journey to motherhood click here!   Okay that is a bit of an exaggeration. My body can carry children, but not very well. With my first son I had hyperemesis gravidarum, and if you aren’t sure […]

Top 10 Newborn Essentials.

When I had my first son there were so many items I was told I needed. By the time I got to my third child I feel like I have a good idea of what I need and what I don’t. These are the items I use the most with my newest little one.    Owlet Baby Monitor is a heart rate and oxygen monitoring sock. The baby wears it just like a sock and it interacts with an app on your mobile device that displays the baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels in real time. After having a premature baby […]

Dear preemie parents…

I want to start off by saying you’re doing a great job. You are probably overwhelmed with machines, and tubes, and IV lines connected to your tiny and extremely fragile baby. You are most likely running on very small amounts of sleep and large amounts of caffeine. Calling the NICU every time you can’t be there to snuggle your precious baby. You are scared to death when you hear the words brain bleed, acid reflux, Ng tube, spells, episodes, emesis, surgery. I remember walking rolling into the NICU for the very first time and seeing my small baby connected to […]

My Journey to Motherhood.

First Pregnancy In 2012 at the age of 17, I gave birth to a 6lb 11oz baby boy. My pregnancy was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. I was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, an extreme illness that made me not able to keep food down. Keeping water down without vomiting was a challenge. I ended up in the ER to replenish my fluids about once a week. My diet consisted of Phenergan (an anti-nausea prescription) and Pedialyte, and I lost a total of 30 pounds throughout my pregnancy. I didn’t start feeling better until 20 weeks. I delivered on […]
