Most people realize that exercise is a very good habit to get into, and yet people still think that many of the exercise misconceptions out there are true. There’s so much conflicting information out there when it comes to exercise, just how do you know what’s real and what isn’t?

We’d be here all day if we tried to debunk every single exercise misconception, but below you’ll find some of the most common:

Your Fat Turns Into Muscle

Fat is fat and muscle is muscle. There’s no way that one can turn into the other! When you practice resistance training, such as weight training, you tend to lose fat and build more muscle, which gives the body a more defined appearance. Many people are afraid of weight lifting because they believe they’ll look even bigger as the fat they do have turns into muscle! This is not the case at all, and resistance training is pretty much imperative for overall health, strength, and quality of life.

You’ll Hurt Yourself If You’re Overweight

Again, false! There are all kinds of exercises you can do that will suit you, even if you’re overweight. Gentle walking, or even cycling could work if you don’t want to go into a gym just yet.
You may want to get a consultation today if you already tried those and ended up getting hurt – but the fact of the matter is, as long as you’re careful and aware of your abilities, you should be fine.

Exercise Is Too Boring/Hard

If you think exercise is too boring, you just haven’t found the right type for you yet. There are tons of different types of exercise and classes that you’ll probably like if you just give them a try. Exercise can be hard at first, but it’ll get easier as you get into the habit.

You Have To Workout All The Time To Be Healthy

You don’t have to work out all the time to be healthy at all. Working out just 3 days a week to begin with is great, and you can gradually build yourself up if you want to. You do need one or two full rest days a week to recover, especially if you’re training hard.

You Have To Go To The Gym To Be Healthy

Exercise outside of the gym makes you healthy too!

Exercise Is The Most Important Thing You Can Do For Weight Loss

Wrong – exercise is important, but eating right is even more important. The food you put into your body can fuel you and turn your body into a fat burning, muscle building machine.

Weight Training Is Only For Men

Women should weight train too. It’s great for bone health, strength, happiness, and so much more. Many women find weight training a lot of fun!

Running Is The Best Way To Keep Fit

Running is fine if you like it, but you don’t have to run to be fit. In fact, running for miles can actually be bad for your feet and knees.
