One Year Blogging: What I’ve Learned!

It has been a year since I started blogging. One whole year. It amazes me because I have learned so much over this last year. When I began blogging, I started blind. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Here is what I learned my first year blogging.

Blogging makes money.

When I began blogging I came across blog income reports from sites like It’s a Lovely Life.  My main thought was that making money from blogging was a fluke. Maybe those people just got lucky. About six or so months after my blog began, I started making money. Not significant amounts of money, but 100-300 dollars per month. After a year of blogging, my income is on the rise and we are extremely grateful for blogging.

Blogging is HARD.

When I began blogging, I didn’t have the money to take the “beginning blogging courses” many bloggers offer. I had to utilize google to learn how to become a successful blogger. I self-taught things from SEO to affiliate marketing and everything in between. It has taken me a year to learn the in’s and out’s of professional blogging and I’m still learning. Throughout this last year, there have been numerous times that I have wanted to give up. However, I am so pleased that I kept with it because blogging is beginning to open doors for my family that I never considered possible.

Quality over quantity.

The first several months of my blogging journey, I posted content as often as possible. That was a mistake. Now I post quality content once per week and my views have skyrocketed. A quality post over quantity. I make sure I am doing the research and editing properly.

Social Media is a friend.

Most of my referrals come from Instagram and Pinterest. I also have a Twitter and a Facebook page that send referrals. When I began I didn’t know how to utilize the social media very well. The last month I have been really proactive and have grown my social media following by 185%! My blog views have skyrocketed and I have gotten a lot of sponsorship inquiries (something that was rare before). We have also recently branched out to vlogging. Check out our vlog by clicking here.

It is a passion of mine.

I have enjoyed all of the doors that blogging has opened for my family. We are very fortunate to have turned blogging into a career. We can’t wait to see where the future will take us.

Make blogging friends.

Blogging isn’t a solo sport.  I have made so many friends and gained so much knowledge from fellow bloggers. What assisted me was joining Facebook groups, or just connecting one-on-one.
