So we have been doing homeschooling informally for a few years. I called it “tot-school” because well, he was a tot. However, now my oldest is five and my middle child is three. So, it is time for us to get serious about learning and homeschooling.
I have been using a homeschool schedule quite loosely for a few weeks now and tweaked it to meet our families needs. Some days this is just a loose template and other days we follow it strictly.
If you have been following me you know that I have a five year old, a three year old, and a one year old. We will be doing homeschool all year round and we will only do it about four days a week. We are typically done by noon(minus the occasional afternoon field trip). That way my kids don’t burn out or have an information overload. While the boys and I work on their schoolwork the youngest plays with toys or gets to help us.
8:00 AM- I wake up and answer emails/work for a bit.
8:30 AM- All three children wake up so it is breakfast time.
9:00 AM- Calendar/Circle Time.
9:15 AM- Math.
9:45 AM-Language Arts/ Reading.
10:15 AM- Outside Play. (During winter it is inside fun.)
10:45 AM- Music/Art.
11:00 AM- History.
11:15 AM- Geography.
11:30 AM- Learning games/ Activities.
12:00 PM- Lunch.
12:30 PM- Outside Play.
1:00 PM- Nap/Quiet time.
3:00 PM- Park/ Outdoor Activity/ Field Trip.
I try to take the kids to a “field trip” at least once a week. We are lucky due to the fact that we live in an area with numerous free events for children.
No schedule is a one-size-fits-all solution so make sure to adjust your schedule to fit your families needs and learning desires.
